I actually own both intakes, so I'm trying to decide which one to put on my new motor. I may later this summer swap intakes and compare
So here's combo:
359w (40 over)
10:1 cr
X303 cam (286/286, 542/542)
800 cfm carb
Mildly ported victor jr heads (2.05/1.60)
1.6 roller rockers
1 3/4 long tubes
5 speed
4.10 gears

I plan to set max rpm about 6500.
The victor jr ports are a bit smaller than my head ports, the super victor is basically the same size as my heads, super victors match up better.
I was jus worried that the super victor would suffer too much down low.
Which would yield the quicker et at drag strip?

I have the same concern as you but with FI. Unlike you I will run a turbocharged, super victor and see what it does with the option of going to the victor jr/long runner intake if it does not perform well in the designated application.

Howdy,

You have a cam that peaks out at about 6,000rpm and you're asking if an intake that peaks out at 8,500rpm would be better than one the peaks out at 7,500rpm.

Gee............ Which one would I chose?

try both, you never know. my car ran better with a vic jr. compared to a parker funnel web(equal to super vic). but it also ran better with a 750 dp vs a 650 dp with either manifold.

Mine is also quicker with the Jr. 5.80's/117. Super victor low 5.90's at 117, but more consistent (which could be other issues related to installing the super...like air leak or tuning). Also 60' was better with the Jr. 1.25 vs normal 1.28-9.

408w (now 438) lots of cam and compression running methanol injected (no fuel in the intake manifold).

Super Victor hands down..

Howdy,

The OP has a +.040" over 351 w/ a cam that peaks at 6 grand and you recommend an intake that will peak at 8,500rpm?

Gee, a Performer RPM would be a much better choice.

I had both the Jr and Super Vic, The Super is a far better choice especially for 359 CI. I dont think will not hurt your combo at all, too being you said your heads are mild ported. You could try both like saod. Dint get a Perfoemer RPM, stick with a single plane over a dual. It wouldn't hurt to have the intake and heads port matched. Dont worry about the said 8500 rpm peak.i would recommend a cam with more lift and duration. My 308 build now.has a cam almost @ .600" lift. A custom cam will get just about every last HP that combo is capable of making with what you have.

Howdy,

Note to self:

Don't take engine advice from the previous two posters.

Yeah Edelbrock just post those recommended RPM ranges to fool or trick newbees.

Experienced engine builders know better.

I think it would be a tough call to say which would be better on the OP combination if the intakes were ported to suite the application without trying both to see. I ported the Vic Jr intake we had to use on the Fastlane Cobra strictly because David didn't want to change the hood to accommodate the SV intake I wanted to try. The engine was a 363 Dart with Dart 195 heads and a hydraulic roller that buzzed to ~7,200 rpm shift point and it ran 10.50s N/A and 9.50s on a 150 shot. Best run was at 2:38 in the video

It's mainly a street car, but with deciding which intake I want the one that will give me the fastest 1/4 et.
As stated its 5 speed with 4.10's

Lot of mixed reviews, but most are saying super victor. But I'm still not decided, more input given the better
From searches and other forms most of them say victor jr

In the end it's all up to you man. I had both the Super Vic and Jr on my 408w* the difference between the two is a lot. If you have some extra cash I'm sure you could get both and see which you like, but I doubt the difference will be super noticeable. You may be better with that cam and a Jr, but it's one half dozen or the other.
