So my question is, why have I seen several Mod Motor guys not using the 4.6 canned COP ignition setup, and run a custom ignition instead?

They run a 6,5,4,8,1,3,7,2 firing order instead of the 1,3,7,2,6,5,4,8 normal order. They are all running the stock crank and cam sensors as far as I know.

Only thing I can see is its because you can adjust the timing so it doesn't move around on you, and coil dwell?

I haven't rigged a spark plug wire to verify my timing yet. Maybe I should.
