Hi all,

I originally posted this over on the lounge, but it seems not a lot of folks over there have much information on these cars. Therefore, I'll post here to perhaps gain some traction to familiarize myself with the model years.

Next summer, I am considering a Shelby GT500, most likely used with low mileage. I would sell my heavily modified 1995 cobra privately, as I simply cannot and do not want to keep up with the maintenance at this stage, and would like to have a newer mustang in my garage with warranty.

With that said, I know the '13-14's have significantly more horsepower and other upgrades over the 2011-2012 model years, however I'd like to hear the pro's and con's from those who know more about these cars throughout each model year.
I see a lot of 2011's available and some 2012's, but want to wait until next year before making a move.

Any input is helpful.

I believe 2010-2012 were very similar, but the 2012s got an aluminum block. Thats about as much input as I can offer though.

2013 Anniversary Model

I'll tell you what... The 20th Anniversary Model will be worth way more.... Carroll Shelby just died February 2012 and Ford made the GT 500 with a whopping 662 HP out of the box . Better yet get the Super Snake 850 HP if you can find one and afford to buy it. I got my 2013 Charcoal Grey w/Black Strips and Drag Pack. I absolutely LOVE IT!!! I've had a 1998 Red Cobra and a 2003 Sonic Blue Cobra before this one. This one is the BEST!!!

Thanks for the information. If I sell the '95, I will most likely purchase a used, low mileage, stock 2013/2014 next spring. It doesn't matter where in the continental U.S. the car is located, as I will consider it a mini-vacation to fly out, and drive the car home. I'm hoping the used prices come down to the low 50's by next year as well. I guess time will tell.

I bought a 2011 GT500 Convertible in the Fall.

A couple of things the 2011 has vs. the 2010.

The 2011 have the aluminum block, and the SVT Performance Package is available as well.

I don't know that there was any significant changes from 11-12

The 2013-14 is pretty much a completely different car from the engine to the trans to the suspension. And you will pay for that as they run 10-15 grand more than a 2012. About the only real drawback I see to the 13 vs the 11 and 12 models (which are leagues above the 2010) is the trans and reach end gearing is very tame in order to rear the 200 mph goal they had.

Guys I'm not a Shelby owner but I know that the 2011 was the first year of the Shelby GT500 with the aluminum block

Autoblog, car & driver confirms the 2011 GT500 had 5.4dohc 540hp/510tq aluminum block saving at least 120lbs. If you can afford it the 5.8dohc aluminum block car will be the one to get!!! Highest rated factory production car HP ever produced!!!! 662HP

The 2013-2014 dynos around 580 bone stock, lol! Not bashing, but that is more than the older models are rated at the engine. And right now you can find the 13s for around the high 40s and the 14s for high 40s low 50s. Next year I can see the 14s being around the high 40s...also depending on what else is available by then...new Boss, new GT500. I am in the same position as you. I plan to get a GT500 over the Summer of 2017 provided the next GT500 isn't already in the making at that point and coming in with even more power for around $60K-$70K. But, again not to bash, just being reasonable, I wouldn't even consider a 2012 or older model. Because looking at the trend and the competition, even the 13s and 14s might be a bit underpowered by then. Heck the Z06 is already at 650, the Hellcat is at 707, the new Camaro and Coyote have stronger internals than the outgoing ones and can probably handle over 650 to the wheels with boost, the next ZL1 will probably come in around 650ish...get the 13-14 man.

I was in this predicament trying to justify selling my rare 2011 to get the better 13-14 but apparently the 2018 is supposed to actually be a monster. I was skeptical because of all the click-bait sites advertising Twin Turbo, blah blah, but it seems that the more well established magazines/e-zines are mentioning the possibility too so now I'm just sort of stuck.

I just bought a 2012 GT500 with a SVTPP. Performance wise this car is more than enough for me. I'm not a racer and the 550 HP will get me down the road just fine. I've already been challenged a couple of times and had no problem with either. The only thing I wish were different are the tires and wheels.

Idk why they stuck with the factory 285 out back. That was killing me, even on the 13-14 cars. luckily they're rather easy to change
