This shop I found just south of the Cleveland area seems to specialize in a wide variety of brackets and helps folks fit the seats into their ‘race’ cars. I think he’s exactly the resource I’d need. I think I’ll be using “Planted” adapters, tbd.

I thought I’d be using Corbeau LG1 seats but wifey found the wing flares by the shoulders uncomfortable. So Recaro’s without the shoulder wing things should really fit the Bill. I think.... the proof is in the pudding.

I can tell you I had Corbeau GTS 2s (I think) and bought them with the fox specific brackets and they sat pretty high. I had to lean the seat back a decent amount to fit.

Yeah, I’ve heard lots of this. That’s why these good aftermarket adapters sit SO low.

I am also only 5’9” which is a bit shorter than you Brian as I recall. So I also have a safety margin there perhaps. Lol. Maybe short is a GOOD thing for once? Lol .

I would probably go to Ohio and see the seats if they are what you are hoping for. That's not too far of a drive, I have family in Dayton OH.

Have you looked at any other seats that are direct swap into the Fox chassis? I have a pair of older Mark VII seats I plan to recover, and I remember a man in Chicago that changed to two different seats for his Mark VII. One was from a Turbo Coupe, and another was a Cougar I think. They all looked very good, but of course everyone has a different taste and body shape etc.

I have wished to find seats from a 1987-1992 Supra, which I really liked in the new cars then where I worked. I'd like to find a pair with power, that were good enough to recover.

if it was just me driving and I had business nearby (back when we could travel....) I’d swing in there for sure. But a nearly 8hr trip (with gas/coffee stops) and getting my wife up to the trip for her input/comfort is more problematic.

I’ll see what shipping cost for one seat and mount bracket is. Perhaps a trip IS much cheaper. I’ll find out soon.

The Momo wheel was SUCH an improvement in driving experience, I am getting interested in the next improvement- the seats.

I did ‘upgrade’ the stock ‘93 seats to ‘95 junk yard seats. I thought. But when I got them bavv CB k from the upholsterer I realized his efforts without OEM replacement foam was FAR from what I’d hoped for. They never were comfortable even when freshly done 20 yrs ago. Getting used seats reupholstered isn’t at all interesting unless i had OEM type replacement foam. And I’ve never found any Mustang seats comfortable really. But I’ve not sat in anything new that comes with good seats either. 2021 seats could be great! Don’t think they’d fit however.

So you can see why I lean to new Recaro’s. Buying used seats, new foam, getting upholstered begins to approach just buying something new that I can sit in and immediate KNOW that it works for me.

That's my thought process. Hoping I find Recaros supportive and enjoyable. That’s their reputation so I think it’s a decent gamble.

You just need to drive to my shop Chris. I have the Recaro LX/LS seats in my car. The 88 of mine you drove years ago also had them in it. Best seat in a Fox. Also, you can buy the wedge engineering brackets and run different sliders to keep the seats low. With the Recaro adapter brackets that connect the Recaros to the stock Ford sliders the seats can sit 1-1.5" higher than the OE seats.

Oh, I’d completely forgotten what seats you had in that Fox Bob. I was so focused on the PHB/TA performance. Yeah that’d be great. I’ll try to get over there when I get serious. Thanks for the invite. That’s a great way to get my wife’s input as well.

Do you have any idea if the LX seat is similar at all with any current Recaro’s? I do believe Recaro makes replacement foam which makes things easier if i can find some non current production seats.

Looks like the LX seat is similar to the current Specialist. Thanks again Bob!

I agree. The Specialist S Is pretty much all we would run in all the cars we built at Detroit Speed back when I ran the shop. Very nice seat. I also agree there isn't a nicer bracket than the wedge engineering ones. We would still modify those to get about another 1/2- 1 lower. We liked the seats as low as possible.

The Specialist S has slightly larger bolster on the seat bottom. The Specialist M has little to no bolster on the base. If the larger bolster is an issue the "M" might be something to look at.

Chris you are correct I would buy the complete replacement foam for the Specialist, and the interior shop would use it to make the rear seats. The foam set wasn't that expensive if I remember I believe the base and back foam together was under $175.00 but that was a few years ago. Much like everything else they might be more now.

Thanks AllBiz. I might pick your brain about modifying the bracket further if needed for my 5’9” frame.

From time to time used LX seats come up on eBay. I’ll consider that route also if the seats work for me after visiting Bob.

There are a couple of people on Instagram who ship from Thailand. Recovered Recaro LX or LS seats for about $1500. One of them has sold on ebay a lot. Maybe check them out?

Quite the Resume there. Detroit Speed builds quality pieces. Toured their shop in 2018. They set the standards in many ways. You may have mentioned it and I failed to read it, but what are you doing these days?

@Goodson, thankyou for the kind words. Yes they build really nice stuff. I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to do what I did over there and meet all the great people. I still have a really close friend that works there.
I ended up going back to the Nascar industry building some of the coolest ford engines every day.

I do miss DSE but the deadlines and time away from my family began to weigh heavily on my wife and kids so something had to give.
I missed alot of my kids events when they were younger. Now that my oldest is a freshman starting on the varsity baseball team, and my youngest has taken up golf. I am really enjoying being able to watch them play now since I am mainly a shop guy, so more of a 7-4 gig with the occasional late night.
I still do some projects on the side at my home shop. I am actually in the final body work paint stages of a 69 Camaro for my buddy at DSE's brother. Pretty much a DSE style build.

Please share pics and info AllBiz. We’d enjoy following your work!

Well I have a decision to make. My dad and his wife live in a retirement home in CT and the community won’t allow visitors that don’t drink the Koolaid and take one of the experimental drug shots (I refuse to call them vaccines). Last year the community didn’t allow any visitor period. Soooo if I don’t take the shot I won’t see my dad as he drinks the koolaid concentrate. My wife and daughter got the JnJ shots not the mRNA versions. My son likely will too.

I think I’ll discuss with my doctor and doctor friends to see if I am over reacting. BUT I have friends close friends who have had BAD reactions in their families from taking the shot(s). One will die this week as it seems to have activated a dormant Mad Cow disease in his system. Another immediately had a bad rash/sores at the shot location that spread to her entire body. Sure it’s rare BUT.....

ggggrrrr..... I can be very stubborn and I may just decide I’ll give up seeing my dad.

I struggled with my decision at first. Yes, there are a very small amount with reactions. I imagine similar to flu vaccine, pneumonia shot, polio vaccine etc.

My mom held off but then finally did take the shot. We had several long discussions and our reasoning came out this way - which is more dangerous at her age (71): take shot or risk the virus? She decided the shot was less of the two dangers.

I took the shot to avoid spreading to any older family members.

the virus was not fun to have, but was manageable. Even so, I personally know 100% perfectly heathy people who had aterrible time, including a good friend one year older, former pro baseball player and in phenomenal condition. Took him over two months to get in road to recovery.

There are hundreds millions who have had the vaccines. If there was a systematic issue we’d have heard about it by now. The J&J blood clots issue happened in six people out of millions of doses.

As with all things, sure we are taking a risk. However, we also take a risk getting out of bed every morning. Statistically speaking, getting out of bed every morning is more dangerous than adverse reactions to the vaccine.

I’m no vaccine thumper, but current reactions to vaccine are running in the 2.5-11.1 case per million doses. Those are pretty good odds. And that’s just reactions.

of course, chance of death fromvaccine is very low as well. However, for those with other health issues it’s certainly higher. That’s why I chose to do the vaccine.

was pretty run down the days after, as well as aches and such. Much like first dose. Got it this past Saturday.
